Busy Saturday PM

After filling up on pancakes, we met up with some new friends and headed to the Museum of Natural History (think "A Night at the Museum") Thanks to the New York State tax payers, we got into this huge Museum for a mere $2!

We started off in the North American animal exhibit, where Lucy saw here first bear.

Here we all are with some giant elk. Lucy was pretty good in the Museum for the most part. We had to take a break to feed here, but she rode around in her stroller well.

And here (we're in Africa now) is Lucy checking out the lions. We're pretty sure we heard her say "Aslan?" (Also, for you astute observers, you will note that Lucy has changed here mode of transportation. Like her mother, Lucy loves physical touch, so the longer she is in the sling, the better.)

After Lucy fell asleep in Lindsey's arms, we headed up to see the dinosaurs. Here is Lindsey and Lucy next to our new friend Zhenya and her son Liam.

And lastly we found "Rexy," who is by far the most popular item in the whole place.

We had a great time in the Museum and once again, Lucy is the ultimate trooper!

Busy Saturday AM

We started of this lovely Saturday having some folks over for a McCann Saturday morning tradition of blueberry pancakes. Unfortunantly, Lucy slept through most of the meal.

Here is Sean cooking with Madison Pettengill, who is going with us to Honduras.

Some other folks enjoyed the pancakes. As you can tell, our apartment is pretty bare!

Crawling

So Lucy continues to crawl a little more each day. Now don't get the wrong idea, she is not flying all over the place, but she is moving to get things she wants.

Here is Sean trying to coax her into crawling around the corner.

Sometimes she just likes to be near her mom while she cooks.

Here she is getting ready to go...

On the move...

And finally reaching her destination.

View from our Window

Okay so we apologize for our lack of posting the past few days. This week in our training we have focused on team building/communication. We had to go on a scavenger hunt all around New York City on Tuesday. It was a lot of fun but also a challange with the heat. We didn't really get to take any pictures because we were too rushed to find the answers to the questions than to actually site see. Lucy has also had a fun past couple of days and has actually learned how to crawl! We are still working on getting a good video footage of it but hopefully you will see it soon on Lucy's world.
Because we haven't posted in so long we wanted to give our readers something to look at so here is our view from our window in our apartment:

To the right:

Straight ahead. The green awaning across the street is a little deli that we have enjoyed.

This is the view of our apartment if your are looking at it from across the street, as you can tell you can't see much because of the trees. The large tower in the back is Riverside Church.

Quite A Sunday

Today we went to our first church service at Nueva Vide, our Spanish-speaking church. We left our apartment at 9:45 to catch the subway to Queens. We arrived at 11 for the service and then promptly sat through 90 minutes of singing. When that was over, they dismissed the kids for Sunday School. Sean went with the kids to help while Lins stayed in the service with Lucy (the nursury had about 30 kids from 0-2 and no workers, just moms). Sunday School got out around 2:15, but the service was still going (that's right, 3 1/2 hours and counting).

Needless to say we were a bit hungry, but we weren't going to let a little hunger stop us, so back on the subway to Manhattan. Unfortunantly, our train wasn't running because of construction, so we waited 20 mintues for another train that dropped us off in West Harlem, a mere 20 minute hike home. We arrived home from church at 4:30, sweating like pigs, and promply stripped down and fell asleep. Once again Lucy was the ultimate trooper, enduring boiling heat on the subway and hikes across the concrete jungle. Alas, we only have pictures of the aftermath, but they are great.

Here is Lucy stripped down and trying to cool/dry off. Of course she is as happy as can be as we are passed out on the bed.

Sean stopped by a deli to grab some fluids, which we downed in no time.

After it was all said and done, we ate lunch/dinner at 5, put Lucy down at 6 (she'd been up since 9:30), and crashed until around 9. Never a dull day in the NYC!

One Week Down...

Here is a quick glimps of our life today:

To start the day, Lindsey went to a concert put on by our church, Nueva Vida, in Central Park. It was quite the cultural experience. Lucy stayed home with dad and had a great nap.

Then after Lucy's nap, we ate lunch at a Cuban resturante down the street from our apartment. It was neat to see all the different cultures in our neighborhood, at times it really does feel like we are in a foreign country.

After lunch we headed to a huge Fareway grocery store and stocked up for the week. Lucy was our pack horse to take all the food home.

Then tonight we packed up Lucy in her newest transportation device and headed for Queens. Lucy loved her new carrier and slept in it all the way home.

Our new friends the Noll's live in Queens, 75 minutes from us. The girls, yes Noa is a girl, enjoy playing together and we like hanging out with their parents. The girls had a spend-the-night party while the parents watched a movie, then it was back in the sling for Lucy as we headed back to Morningside Heights.

It was a long day, but well worth the effort. More soon.

Happy 4th of July

Here is what we did on the 4th of July:

Played with mom and dad in the bed. Yes you are seeing the picture right, the bed has now moved to the kitchen and it is a beautiful thing! It is the wall furthest from the window and we both slept so much better last night. There are many advantages to a bed on wheels.

Enjoyed my breakfast with the family.

Studied up on how to do a cultural and ethnographic study.

Picinic at Central Park.

Playdate with my new friend Noa Noll

Tour of New York city with Uncle Mike (our teammate for Honduras).

What a fun and busy day!! Too tired for fireworks.

More of NYC

Yesterday morning we took Lucy and walked around our neighborhood. Here is the street leading up to our building. The church behind us is the historic Riverside Church. As you can tell it is a nice area, Morningside Heights is the academic part of NY and one of the safest neighborhoods. We'll get better pictures soon.

Here we are strolling in Morningside Park with a picnic lunch on board (you can tell from the steps why it is called Morningside Heights).

We found our way to this famous diner which is just down the street from our building. If you can't tell, this is Monk's Diner from Seinfeld, but it is actually called Tom's and the inside looks nothing like the show. Apparently they filmed the inside shots in a studio in LA.

Ah the subway, Lucy's favorite part of the city. She loves seeing all the people and gets excited at all the stops. We spend about 2 hours a day on the subway riding from Manhattan to Queens and back, so we are thrilled that she likes it.

Last night she passed out in the backpack for 45 minutes during the commute, she is the ultimate trooper!

We are going on a tour tomorrow, so check back for more pics with Lucy!

Our Home in NY City

Here is our apartment in NY. When we arrived we rearranged the whole place and decided to put our bed out in the living room in order to give Lucy her own room to sleep. Here we are unpacking all of our stuff.

This is a view of our table/eating area.

Kitchen. We are excited to have a stove and full fridge. There are no pots, pans, dishes, etc. so we will have to work on getting some of that stuff in order to make a meal.

Bathroom. No shower curtain or toliet paper...other necessities that we will need to find first thing tomorrow. Where is the closest Walmart?!?!

The bedroom door where Lucy is sound asleep. She had a little hard time going down considering all of the street noise, a new place, and a chaotic day of travel. We are praying for a restful night though.

Travel to NYC

In following with our summer theme of firsts, Lucy rode on a plane for the first time today. We are spending the month of July in New York City with our mission agency (Mission to the World) for cultural training and ministry. Here is a glimps of our day of travel.

After a hurried afternoon nap, Lucy got to the airport with no problem, while Sean on the other hand left the tickets with our ride and had to sprint through the airport traffic to catch the car containing said tickets. But soon enough we were waiting in line with Lucy watching over our luggage.

She apparently got a kick out of how much we packed. We were impressed that we got 200 lbs. in 4 suitcases to live on for a month!

Lucy of course got the window seat and, of course, never once looked out the window.

Lucy did great on the plane. A little crying never hurt anyone, and she even managed a short nap.

And lastly, we couldn't resist taking a picture of Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds (er, diamond). If you are unfamiliar, that is the title of a Beatles song that we sing to Lucy, and as of two days ago, a song on our new Beatles record (thanks Hunt's)

After an easy cab ride, we arrived at our new home in Morningside Heights, Manhattan, New York, New York!
